KNIFE AND SHELLS.
BALLISTICS EXPERT IN BOX. DOZENS OF RIFLES FIRED. FURTHER KNIFE-CUT EVIDENCE. Expert in ballistics and micro-photography, Dr. Dennis Brown, lecturer in physics at the Auckland University College, is now in the witness box at the trial of William Alfred Bayly giving his opinions as to the knife cuts found on Lakey's implement shed. This is the fourth week of the trial of Bayly, the Ruawaro farmer, aged 28, who is charged with murdering his neighbours, Samuel Pender Lakey and Chrisfoble Lakey. Over 70 witnesses have so far given evidence, and it is believed that two other experts are to be called. This afternoon Dr. Brown is expected to give evidence of experiments he carried out with shells from .22 calibre rifles, making a comparison with Bayly's Spandau. A large number of photo-micrographs will be produced.
