NAVAL BASE DANCE.

I The officers and ship'e company of H.M.s. Diomede gave a dance in the Devonport dock shed laet evening for the purpose of raising funds for the dependents of the late Petty Officer Craigie. The shed was gaily decorated with Hags, the walls and entrance ways being entirely covered. Other flags were need to divide the ehed into lounges for thoee who did not care to dance. A t rawed dais was effectively draped, from which the orchestra played.. A demonstration of modern ballroom dancing was given.by Miss Jean Home and Mr. Chapman. A buffet supper was served. The Auckland Navy League was represented and the Devonport sub-branch. Lieutenant-Commander K. BackLouee was president of the organising committee, and the function wae under the patronage of Captain Cosmo M. Graham. Among those present were: Mrs. W. Shera, president of the girls' branch of the Navy League, who wore black lace and georgette; Mrs. A. Cleal, black ring velvet; Mrs. T. Palmer, wine euede crepe; Mrs. Ryan, floral georgette; Mre. H. Skinner, shell pink lace; Mrs. I. Long, grey angelekin lace, with red coatee; Mies B. Vella, ivory georgette; Miss Brown, moss green crepe de chine; Miss Craven, blue lace; Miss J. Roberts, floral georgette; Mise Jean Anderson, ivory angelskin lace; Miee Oakes, black ring velvet and diamante; Mise Anne Kelly, delphinium blue lace; Mies Home, salmon pink suede crepe; Mise J. Hood, apple green georgette; Miss E. Nicholls, black ring velvet; Miss W. Kindred, ecarlet flowered georgette; Mise A. Eccles, cardinal red lace; Mies D. Eccles, blue angelskin lace; Miss Molyneau, ■ moss green organdie; Miss D. Romany, ivory satin; Mise Hewitt, powder blue georgette; Mise M.
