DARGAVILLE NEEDS.
COMMERCE CHAMBER VIEWS. RURAL TELEPHONE HOURS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DARGAVILLE, this day. At a meeting of the Dargaville Chamber of Commerce there was some discussion upon the question of telephones serving a number of smaller centres within 30 miles of Dargaville. It was pointed out that the existing hours (from 9 to 5) do not suit business men or farmers, particularly the latter, and that the after-hours imposition of 1/ reopening fee is a hardship. A motion was carried requesting the Post„and Telegraph Department to consider opening bureaux in smaller centreß between 7 and 8 in the evening as a trial. •> The chamber appointed the president, Mr. T. G. Evison, the vice-presidents, Messrs. H. Tonkin and C. N. Taylor, anjl two members to attend the annual conference of North Auckland chambers, which is being held at Kaikohe on June 20. The delegates were instructed to oppose any proposal to alter the name of the northern part of the Dominion from North Auckland to Northland, as has been suggested.
