BUSINESS BEFORE COUNCIL. CAMPS AND ROADS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, this day. Matters of interest came before the Thames County Council at its meeting yesterday. In reply to the Kirikiri settlers for the establishment of an unemployed camp on their road, the council instructed the clerk to interview Mr. W. Slaughter, officer in charge of the Labour Department in Auckland, and ascertain the possibility of allowing local men five days a week ou the work. The Tuapeka County Council requested support for its resolution that representations be made to the Minister of Internal Affairs for the passage of leprislation preventing miners under the Unemployment Board's mining scheme exercising their voting power under the miners' right qualification at county elections. The letter stated that if some amendment were not made to section 40 of the Counties Act the present control of counties might be seriously jeopardised. The council decided to support the request. The opening up of the KanaerangaTairua road was again discussed. Mr. Williamson moved that the council approve a scheme to open up the road by unemployed labour. Representatives of the Totara and Tairua ridings agreed that their ridings should shoulder the expense. It was decided that the Minister of Public Works be approached tonight and urged to open up the road.
