SYDNEY CONDITIONS.
You published recently some remarks regarding Sydney which are entirely misleading. Your informant states that the people are largely flat dwellers and that rents are high, ranging from £2 to £10. About 10 per cent of Sydney's people live in flats, which. are mostly very up to date and convenient. I can name many suburb* where good flats can be obtained at 25/ per week, many of them furnished. As for foodstuffs being dear, he would find on closer inspection that groceries are much the same as in Xew Zealand, while fruit of all kinds is much cheaper than here. The same applies to vegetables. As for being unable to get a meal in the city under 2/, that is ridiculous. There are at least one hundred cafes in the city where excellent meals can be obtained at prices ranging from 9d to 1/0. Sydney is like any other city—one can live most economically or most expensively, according to one's taste and pocket. SYDXEYSIDER.
