ALLEGED SLANDER.
ACTION ADJOURNED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. A claim for £1000 damages for alleged slander, brought by Norman Ileaton Pike, estate agent, of Wellington, against H. A. Jones, farmer, of Walton, which was to be heard in the Supreme Court to-day, was adjourned until the next session on the application of Mr. N. S. Johnson, for plaintiff. Mr. J. F. Strang represented defendant.
The pleadings alleged that defendant, at Morrinsvillc, on August last, falsely and maliciously spoke certain defamatory statements concerning plaintiff, intending to convey that plaintiff, in respect of his occupation, was untrustworthy and incapable of conducting his own business affairs, unreliable in his dealings, of bad financial position, and immoral.
The defence denied the allegations and contended that if statements were made they were made in an honest belief in their truth and under privileged circumstances.
