BETTER TONE.

FAT STOCK MARKET. WESTFIELD WEEKLY SALE. Although there was no actual improvement in prices at the Westfield fat stock market to-day, there was a decidedly better tone, all round. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:—At our weekly Westfield fat stock market to-day we penned beef in more than average numbers. There was a ready demand, the market showing a decidedly better tone, with values very firm at late rates. Extra choice ox sold to 21/ per 1001b; choice and prime, 17/ to 20/; secondary and plain, 14/ to. IG/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 16/ to 20/; secondary, 12/ to 15/. Heavy prime steers ranged in price from £7 2/6 to £8 5/; lighter, £6 5/ to £7; light, £5 5/ to £6 2/6; small and unfinished, £3 to £5; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £4 15/ to £5 10/; heavy, £4 to £4 12/6; lighter, £3 7/6 to £3 17/6; light, £2 10/ to £3 5/; others, £1 10/ to £2 7/6.

Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd., report: At our weekly Westfield fat stock market held to-day we penned fat cattle to the number of 308 head, as against 224 head at last week's market, comprising 182 steers and 126 cows and heifers. The quality of the ox beef was an improvement on last week. There was a keen demand, and ruling values were easily sustained. Extra choice ox sold to 21/ per 1001b; choice and prime, IS/ to 20/; secondary and plain, 15/ to 17/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 15/ to 18/; secondary, 10/ to 14/. Extra heavy prime steel's ranged in price from £8 15/ to £9 10/; heavy, £7 15/ to £S 12/6; lighter. £6 10/ to £7 12/6: light. £5 to £0 7/6; small and unfinished, £2 to £4 17/6; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £5 to £5 7/6; heavy, £4 to £4 17/6; lighter, £2 15/ to £3 17/6; others, £1 10/ to £2 12/6.

Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report:—At our weekly fat stock market held to-day we yarded 238 head of beef, comprising 38 steers, 200 cows and heifers, against 320 last week. The quality was well up to standard, and the offering sold under a steady demand at values on a par with last week's rates. We offered no extra heavy bullocks. Extra choice ox sold to 21/ per 1001b; choice and prime, 17/ to 20/; secondary and plain. 14/ to 16/: prime young cow and heifer beef, 16/ to 19/; secondary, 11/ to 15/; Heavy prime steers ranged in price from £7 2/6 to £Z 7/6; lighter, £6 7/6 to £7: light, £5 10/ to £6 5/; small nnd unfinished. £3 15/ to £5 7/6. Extra heavy prime voung cows and heifers, £4 15/ to £5 15/: heavy, £4 to £4 12/6; lighter. £3 to £3 17/6; others, £1 10/ to £2 17/6.
