DEFENCE POLICY.
PLANS FOR IMPROVEMENT. STATESIENT BY SIIXISTER. (By Telegraph —Own Correspondent.) HASH ETON, this day. A series of official inspections of northern territorial units and secondary school cadets was started to-day by the Minister of Defence, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, and General Sinclair Burgess with a review of high school and technical school cadets. It is known that plans for the improvement of conditions of service of the territorial force have been under consideration by the Government for some time. The form the. plan will take is not known, but it is understood that the Government agrees with the Hon. J. G. Cobbe and General Sinclair Bur ress that a greater measure of encouragement should be given to eligible men to enable all ranks to be brought up to full strength and a high standard of training. Questioned to-day, Sir. Cobbe said the defence proposals, apart from those announced to Parliament by the Prime Minister, had been under review by the Government for some time. The Slinister said he might be able to refer to several matters affecting defence at several meetings which he would shortly attend in Auckland city. Beyond that he was unable to say anything at present.
