FLOODED MARKET.

DAIRY COMPETITION.

DOMINION ATTITUDE. STIIiL. NO SOLUTION. (By Telegraph.—Special t\_ " Star.") WELLINGTON", this day.

The Dairy Export Board met members of the Government to-day to discuss the proposal adopted at the recent conference of dairying interests, that a delegation should be sent to England to make friendly contact with the farmers and to discuss mutual problems in respect to price raising.

It is not expected tliat there will be any definite arrangement at present, as the plan does not appear to be favourably viewed either in Governmental or Dairy Board circles. Sucli a delegation would need to carry with it some definite plans for improvement of the industry, and these have not been evolved. It is also thought that discussions with British farmers would not be fruitful of results, in view of New Zealand's firm determination to maintain the volume of its dairy exports and risk the results in a highly competitive and over-supplied market. What may happen when the Ottawa agreement terminates nearly 18 months hence is a matter giving concern, and if a delegation went from New Zealand it would need to include a member of the Cabinet, as discussions would have to take place with British Ministers regarding the possibility of extending the agreement. The British Government's recent subsidy decision, covering thp next two years, indicates its settled policy for that period, and suggests that the inclusion of a responsible member of the Government in any delegation which visited England at present would not be likely to achieve any variation in policy, or any commitment on the :part of tile British authorities regarding developments after August, 1935.
