DOORS FORCED.

RAID BY THIEF.

PREMISES RANSACKED

GOODS AND MONEY STOLEN,

A beauty parlour and a 'billiards, .saloon in Kean's Buildings, Queen Street, were entered and ransacked last night between 11 p.m. and midnight, when the nightwatchman discovered that doors to each place had been forced open. The proprietor of the billiards saloon locked up his premises and left the building at 11 o'clock, when everything appeared to be in order. It is believed that the thief hid in the building before the main doors leading to Queen Street were locked and that he began to prowl about afterwards. A jemmy or chisel was used to force the doors of the beauty parlour, the marks being plainly visible on' the doors this morning. The thief made a thorough search of the parlours for valuables and, in addition to making a selection of cosmetics arid articles used in the business, he also stole 10/ in cash and several strings of beads and pearls, the latter only being received from England recently by the proprietor. A metal expanding framework which was placed across the entrance to the billiard saloon and left securely, loeked was wrenched from its fittings to enable entrance to be gained. A desk in one cornier of the saloon, was rilled and about £10 in cash removed.
