THEFT OF BAR GOLD.
Armed Guards Outwitted in Africa. CEMENT SUBSTITUTED. (Received 10 a.m.) CAPETOWN*, March 7. Bar g°ld weighing !)3(> ounces, consigned from Bulawayo, Rhodesia, to London, has disappeared. When the box in which it was conveyed, was opened on Monday it contained a block of cement studded with nails, bringing it to the exact weight of the gold. The consignment was entrusted to an armed escort until being shipped.
CANADIAN COMPLAINT. USE OF AUSTRALIAN MEAT. (Received 1 p.m.) VANCOUVER, March 7. A complaint that Australian mutton is being used by the Government unemployed relief camps, to tho detriment of the Canadian meat trade, has been made to Ottawa by George M. Murray, a member of the British Columbia Legislature.
