LENDERS OF MONEY.
CHARACTER TESTIMONIALS. (By telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. Moneylenders' regulations, made under the authority of the Act passed last session of Parliament, were gazetted tonight. Provision is made for the keeping of a register of moneylenders by the clerks of Magistrate's Courts. Applications for registration must be accompanied by testimonials signed by not fewer than five reputable persons as to (a) the good character of the moneylender, or partners in a moneylending firm, or persons responsible for the management of a moneylending society or corporate body; (b) the fitness of these persons to hold a license. Provision is made for lodging objec tions to the granting or renewing of licenses on grounds set out in the Act iof last session.
