PUZZLED COMMITTEE.
WHAT ARE ITS DUTIES? OVERLAPPING AT THAMES. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, this day. The status of the Thames mining executive oommittec is explained in a letter to the Mayor, Mr. S. Ensor, by the deputy-chairman of the Unemployment Board, Mr. J. S. .Tcsscp. When the letter came before the unemployment committee last evening it evoked some discussion. Mr. Jessep pointed out that the Mining Executive was quite a distinct body from the unemployment committee. Previously the position was different, but an alteration occurred when the Thames mining area was reorganised for comprehensive gold prospecting by subsidised men on the game lines as in the Coromandel, West, land and Marlborough areas. The Mayor said he could not understand why the Unemployment Board had set up a committee to deal witlf mining without consulting the unemployment committee. It was a serious omission on the board's part. In view of so much control from Wellington he wondered whether the mining committee should disband. The letter was received, no further action being taken.
