A representative cricket match hetween South Canterbury and Wellington was commenced tills afternoon in fine weather. A strong wind blew right down the wicket and made it impossible to play with bails. The homo side batted first, but took two and a half hours to make 121 runs. Blundell (two for 25) kept a fine length throughout 15 overs, mostly into the wind, and Griffiths (three for 31) the slow bowler, had all batsmen cautious. R. Hatch, who was brought on late, took three wickets for 1 run. Apart from A. Souter. a High School boy, who made .14. none of the batsmen was ever comfortable. Wellington lost three good wickets (Crook, Tiiidill and Ell) for 33 before stumps were drawn.
