AUCKLAND AGAIN.

WINS YALDHURST SHIELD. I.INDSAY OUTSTAYS CRUMP. 11. LEYDON AND M. FARQUHAR ALSO WIN AGAIN. (By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. The New Zealand national swimming championships were concluded this evening in heavy rain. The weather was very cold. Titles were won this evening by three j Aucklanders. Mona Leydon won the 440 yds ladies' championship, Judith Webster the 220 yds ladies' breaststroke championship, and Wilfrid Hassan the men's diving championship. Hassan's success caused great enthusiasm among the Auckland team, because, although every swimming title has been held in Auckland, lie is the first Aucklander to win the diving for 14 years. Xoel Crump, the Auckland and New Zealand 100 and 220 yards intermediate and senior champion, could not last it out with Dave Lindsay in the final of the quarter-mile, although he had won hie heat in three seconds faster time than the Dominion's greatest distance swimmer. Crump led until the end of the eleventh lap, when he was overtaken by Lindsay. l (, rom then on the North Shore boy could not maintain the pace against Lindsay's long-reaching strokes. Crump could hardly have been expected to wrest the laurels from Lindsay anyway, and, taking all things into consideration, he has put up a remarkable all-round performance at this national meeting. The Yaldhurst Shield, for most points scored by a province at the meeting, was •won by Auckland (for the fifth year in succession), with 65 points. Canterbury was next with 21 points, and Manawatu was third. Detailed results:—• WOMEN'S 440 YARDS. M. Leydon, Auckland 1 N. Ludlow, Auckland .. 2 N. Basstian, Southland 3 Also started: J.
