IN UPPER WAIHOU RIVER. CONDITIONS TO BE ENDORSED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) PAEROA, this day. r The Thames Valley and Hauraki - Plains Farm Lands Protection League t has secured its first victory in the man- s tor of saving the Upper Waihou River < from damage by the depositing therein ? of mining refuse. < In accordance with the decision of the \ meeting on November 21 the league's 1 solicitor opposed the application of Mr. ' H. J. Pease for a water race and tail ' race for a small battery 011 the Wairo.ngomai Stream when the case came before ' the mining warden at To Aroha in December. Objection was also entered ; by the Public Works Department, and ] with the consent of all parties the ease , was adjourned till the February sitting , of the Warden's Court. , Advice has now been received that Mr. Pease had agreed to a special condition 1 to be endorsed 011 his license that tailings and mining debris must be stacked , "111 the gully to the satisfaction at all times of the Inspector of Mines. 111 consideration of this condition the league and the Department have withdrawn their objections. The league regards this result as satisfactory, as, although Mr. Pease's mining operations are to be 011 a small scale, a precedent had been established which may be used in the event of any further applications being made to dump tailings or slimes into the Upper Waihou.
