DECISIONS OF COUNCIL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) PUKEKOHE, Wednesday. The monthly' meeting of the Franklin County Council was held yesterday. Mr. J. X. Massey, M.P., presided. Awhitu Road. —In reply to letters from Mr. M. Torpcy, of Awhitu, suggesting an alternative route to the present proposed Tram Gully Road at Awhitu, the council decided to reply that no further action can be taken until the Public Works Department has sanctioned the construction of the present proposed road. Road Loan.—A letter was received from the Loans Board in reply to the application for sanction to raise Hamilton's West Coast Road loan of £600. The board is not in favour of the raising of such small loans and raised several points for consideration. The council decided to reply pointing out that it could not entertain the board's proposals, and that the loan is needed. Bombay to Ararimu. —In reply to requests by Ararimu residents the council replied that it would legalise the proposed new Bombay to Ararimu Road, but could not commit itself to form the road within any specified period. Ragwort Eradication.—The engineer reported that during December last Bcvvt of sodium chlorate was purchased and put into i)lb and 101b tins for settlers requiring it. Up to the present 3951b had been disposed of. Where settlers provided the material and requested relief workers, they were in all cases made available to rssist with the application of the sodium chlorate. Great South Road. —The engineer reported that work of paving the Great South Road from Papakura boundary to Runciman was well forward, and details were under discussion in connection with the paving of a further length from Runciman to Rama Rama. Unemployment.—The engineer reported that the council had 198 men working from camps, and a further 86 were required to fill the camps. Everything possible was being done to expedite seasonal work before the winter.
