CLAIM LEFT IDLE.

GOLD-BEARING AREA. COURT GRANTS PROTECTION. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) THAMES, this day. A ease of considerable interest in mining circles was heard in the Warden's Court yesterday, when Julius Ilogben, solicitor, applied for a protection order over the Kuranni-Caledonia claim. An objection and'application for forfeiture of the claim was lodged by W. White, garage proprietor, of Thames. Mr. A. G. T. Bryan, who appeared for White, said it was common knowledge that not a pick had been put into the ground since the claim was granted in April, 1933. . J. W. Smith, mining supervisor; said that 110 work had been done 011 the ground. White had spent hundreds of pounds prospecting adjacent ground. W. White stated that ho had entered into negotiations to buy the property from Hogben, but could get no satisfaction. If he got the ground lie said he could start work in a week's time. He could find £7000 or £SOOO to work the ground. E. F. Adams, mining engineer, said that 110 work had been done 011 the ground for 20 years. White's scheme was sound and had considerable possibilities. After hearing argument the warden held that the holders should be allowed time to raise capital. From the mining inspector's report it was clear that the "round needed capital for its development. The application was dismissed, but a fine of 20/ was imposed. The application for protection was recommended to the Minister.
