DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS. TENOR HORN AND TROMBONES. (!3y Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Further results in the New Zealand brass bands' championships contest, which was continued to-day are as follow: — E Flat Tenor Horn Solo. "Chanson ! Rustique" (Cyril Jenkins). —W. M. Wills 1 (Invercargill Civic Band), 99 points, 1; G. It. Taylor (Westport Municipal), 90, 2; W. D. Borrie (Auckland Waterside Workers), J. Reed (Wellington East Coast Regiment) and R. Simpson (Wellington Municipal Tramways), 89, equal, 3. j The winner was the second competitor at the festival to score 99 points. He gave a great performance. The judge, Mr. T. Gray, said Wills was an excellent soloist, with a glorious tone. He was a player after his own heart. It was a magnificent rendering of a beautiful solo. , The player placed second gave a fine and careful performance. Trombone Trio, "The Three Trombonists" (T. Clough).—St. Kilda Municipal, 93 points, 1; Nelson Garrison, 92. 2; Christchureh Municipal and Queen Alexandra's Own, 90, equal, 3. The winning trio gave a delightful rendering. The members of the trio said the judge, Captain Buckley, were quite sympathetic and seemed to understand one another very Well. Tenor Trombone Solo, "In Cellar Cool' (W. Rimmer). —A. Ramsay (Queen Alex--1 andra's Own), 97 points, 1; A. M. Wills (Invercargill Civic), 02, 2; A. Pearson ■ (Masterton Municipal), 91, 3. 1 In the opinion of Captain Buckley the winner displayed the beautiful qualities of the instrument to great advantage and amply demonstrated his command of clean technique. The task of judging this section had been difficult, but the winner stood out prominently. In the way of temperamental playing and good intonation, a man of his calibre would be a help to any conductor or band. He hoped other tenor trombonists would copy his style. The A grade bands played their first test selection this evening. No placings will be given until Friday evening.
