SOWING GRASS.
NATIVE SETTLEMENT. LAND BOARD ACTIVITIES. ROYAL COMMISSION'S WORK. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Native Land Settlement Board, J which under the legislation of the recent session now controls all details of native land development, has held a series of meetings this week, Sir Apirana Ngata, tlie Native Minister, presiding. . The board dealt with a large aceu- j initiation of detail business associated with various schemes, and it will shortly have under consideration an extensive programme for grassland sowing, as large areas have been brought under cultivation by natives. This board, which until recently held , a somewhat nominal position in rela- i tion to native settlement, is now the dominant factor, as Sir Apirana Ngata, immediately following the AuditorGeneral's .strictures, suggested legislation which places practically all decisions under its control. As for the Loyal Commission which is to investigate the administration of native affairs, especially in regard to land development and the administration of estates of natives, the delay 111 announcing the personnel is understood to lie due to pressure of work on the judiciary, while it also enables the Government further to consider the most suitable commissioners to assist the judge who will preside. -
