PROTECTIVE TARIFF.
MANUFACTURERS' VIEWPOINT (By Telegraph.—Tress Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. A meeting of the Dominion Council ©f the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation, held at Wellingtoit to-day, ■with Mr. F. L. Hutchinson, of Christehureh, presiding, expressed its satisfaction with the statement of the Minister of Finance, th© Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates. contradicting the suggestion that if New Zealand would reduce or abolish her protective tariff it would result in the United Kingdom continuing to give unrestricted entry to New Zealand primary produce. The council stated that the manufacturers claimcd it had been shown that no sacrifice of New Zealand industries would have an effect on the proposals for a qi«yfca, or some other form of restriction -upon -exports to Britain*
