NORTHCOTE REGATTA.

NINETY BOATS COMPETE. KEEN RACING IN SMALL CLASSES. The Northcote and Birkenhead regatta was held on Saturday In a fresh northerly breeze which kept the crews busy and was responsible for several mishaps. Corsair, competing in the keel class, carried away her mast. Celox, when lying a good second to Omntere in the H class, sprung her mast and had to close reef to finish. Marianne,- in the V class, capsizcd off St. Mary's boat harbour, and was rescued by one of the local launches, the launch race being abandoned. The scow Dominion was flagship ; and was moored "west of the Northcote wharf, where all events started and finished. The racing was very good in all classes. In the Wakatere class the finishes were especially close, Wainui, Waimarie, and Waitaki finishing a dead heat. Speedwell and Owhanga made a close flnigh, Speedwell only finishing Cs ahead. Paroro sailed exceptionally well in the V class, coming in 3m 26s ahead of the:next boat, Manutere, with Mejnutu third. In the- S class Marlcne came home lm 18s ahead of Scimitar, -with Cyrona, a new boat, only 13s later. Demon, in the Y class, had a great go with Ivaroro, a new boat, Karoro getting.the gun by 30s, with Stormy third. In the T and X class Aileen led all- the way, finishing Cm 22s ahead of Sybila, with Zephyr and Valet next. MC TOo led the fleet home in the Z class by Tin Is from Dclphine, with Trevic third. The finish in the Wakatere class was also very close, Waiola getting the gun 10s ahead of Winooka, with Wakatere 30s later third. In the local boats' race Opah and Kea had a great race for "the line, OpaTi winning by 325.

Owing to the direction of the wind, the course for the smaller classes gave little or no windward work. The races were sailed in very quick time, the limit boats scoring well. Paroro, in the V class, completed two rounds in lh 4m 465, Aileen did the course in lh 6m 435. Marlene in lh 7m 80s; and Karoro in lh 10m 21s. The fastest Wakatere took 38m to do the course, once round, and the fastest Z 40m 345. Results:— C and E Class.—The finish was: Speedwell, 4h 22ni 245; Owhanga, 4h 22m 30s; Maybelle, 4h 27m 19s; Loloma, 4h 32m 555; Moutere, 4h 34m 30s. Result: Owhango 1, Maybelle 2, Loloma 3. ;H, L and N Class.—The .finish was: Omatere, 4h 23m 48s; Celox, 4h 32m 375; Cynara, 4h 35m-3s; Winifred, 4h 43m 50s. Result: Omatere 1, Cynara 2, Celox 3. V Class. —The finish was : Paroro 3h 44m 40s, Manutere 3h 48m 30s, Memutu 3h 48m 495, Mischief 3h 49m 3os, Martha S. 3h 51m 255, Avian 3h 52m 555, Daphne 3h 53m 525, Avro 3h 53m 535, Drone 3h 54m 555, Sun 3h 56m ss. Result: Mischief ly Sun 2, Paroro 3, Daphne 4. S Class.—The finish was: Marlene 3h 52m 30s, Scimitar 3h 54m 12s, Cyrona 3h 54m 255, Namu 3h 55m 425, Clio 3h 57m 335, Mascot 4h 2m 275, Kittiwake 4h 4m 345, Aotea 4h 5h 265. Result: Clio 1, Mascot 2, Namu 3. Y Class.—The finish was: Karoro 4h 0m 21s, Demon 4h 0m ! 51s, Stormy 4h 2m 51s, Rebel 4h 5m 575, Aloha 4h 6m ss, Jupiter 4h 6m 13s. Result; Stormy 1, Demon 2, Jupiter 3. ! Result: Tamaki 1, Me Too 2, Betty 3. Local Yachts. —The finish was: Opah 4h 16m 255, Kea 4h 16m 575, Sea Bubble 4h 17m 58s, Irene 4h 18m 20s, Mighty Atom 4h 18m 335, Meteor 4h 18m 50s. Vonu 4h 20m 3s, Ola 11. 4h 20m 58s, Yvonne 4h 21m 48s. Result: Irene 1, Sea Bubble 2, Yvonne 3.

Wakaterps.—The finish -was: Waiola 3h 53m Os, Winooka 3h 53m 10s, Wakatere 3h 53m 40s, White Wings 3h 55m 9s, Wainui, Waimare and Waitaki dead-heat 3h 55m 50s, Wanderer 3h 58m 51s, Wish Wynne 4h lm 16s. Result: White Wings 1, Winooka 2. Wainui 3. Naval Whalers.—R.N.V.R. No. 1 4h 15m 265, Philomel No. 1 4h lGm ss, R.N.V.R. No. 2 4h 16m 40s. Philomel No. 2 4h 17m 38s. Result: R.N.V.R. No. 1 1/ R.N.V.R. No. 2 2, Philomel No. 2 3. Philomel No. 1 fouled the mark. Local Launches. —The starters In this race were Little Princess, Dorothy, Miss Billy, Doreen E., Wee Mite, and Mandalay. When Marianne capsized two of the launches went to her help and the others then retired. The officers of the day were: Starters. Messrs. W. A. Wilkinson, N. J. Campbell and A. Couldrey; judges. Mr. G. R. Hutchinson and Captain H. H. Sergeant; timekeeper. Mr. G. E. Laycock; recorder, Mr. f. G. Fulbrook. The sports in connection with the regatta will take place at Hinemoa Park on Saturday. ■
