INDIAN EARTHQUAKE.
BRITISH OFFICIAL REPORT. (British Official Wireless.) (Received 1 p.m.) KUGBY, February 12. Sir Samuel Hoare informed the House of Commons that the latest information was that in British India 0582 lives were lost during the recent earthquake. At least five crores of rupees would be required for relief work and the reparation of material damage. He was not yet in a position to say in what manner the necessary expenditure by the Government would be financed, but there was no reason to anticipate that the financial proposals of the White Paper would require modification on that account.
