MISSIONARY WORK.
ACTIVITIES AT MELANESIA. At the first meeting of the literature study section of the League of New Zealand Pen women, held on Tuesday, a very enjoyable evening was given by Major H. S. Robinson, general secretary of the Church of England Melanesian Mission" of New Zealand. Mrs. J. Innes, convener, introduced the speaker. Major Robinson, through the medium of a portable moving picture camera, showed a number of scenes depicting the work of the mission in the Islands, as well as many scenic views. He pointed out that much of the mission's activities were concerned witli the medical, hygienic and administrative welfare of the natives, as well as with their spiritual welfare; and in this connection he spoke very warmly of the wonderful work the other denominational J societies —Presbyterian, Methodist, Roman Catholic —were doing. In addition to these films of general topical interest. Major Robinson, at the request of members, showed some films depicting various tropical diseases, among the two worst being elephantiasis and yaws (3. species of rodent ulcers), the treatment' of which is given by the medical missionaries of the .society.
