SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

Mrs. F. A. Burgess, of Mount Eden, entertained a number of guests at her beach cottage, Takapuna, yesterday, prior to her return to Auckland. The morning was spent in bathing and tennis, and after a buffet luncheon the guests spent the afternoon in playing progressive bridge. The prizewinners were Misses Cicely Turner and Jean Browne. Among those present were: Mesdames F. Carter, B. Culling, A. Jackson, Meredith, S. Walker, Green, L. Johnson, Misses V. Green, A. Burridge, S. Nicholson, Betty Black, Forsyth, Ida Cummings, L. McMahon, M. Vincent, Sadie Carruthers, R. Burton.

A happy day was spent by the members of Court Maid Marian's Pride, juvenile section of the Ancient Order of Foresters, at the annual picnic held at Brown's Bay on Saturday last. The secretary, Sister Gubb, kindly lent her residence for the occasion, lunch and tea being served at this rendezvous. Swimming and various games were enjoyed at the beach, and at the conclusion of the outing each child was given a small present, together with a bag of sweets and biscuits. Members of the adult court, who contributed their services, were: Sisters Connor, Tetley, Hoy, Haining, Darlow, E. Gubb, McAdani and Mead, and mothers of the members and Mesdames Binficld and Haining also attended.
