LABOURER IMPRISONED.

James Allen O'Malley (20). a labourer, appeared before Mr. W. F. Stihvell. S.M., for sentence on a charge of assaulting Edward James Harris. He pleaded guilty last Saturday.* Harris, a restaurant proprietor, bad some trouble with O'Malley, who had been somewhat offensive to Mrs. Harris, stated the police. Harris requested him to stop using bad language, and O'Malley attacked him. Some stitches had to be put in Harris' head. Harris alleged that O'Malley got him down and turned his heel in his eye. From an examination it appeared that his injuries could have been caused in the manner described. O'Malley whs sentenced to a month's imprisonment last Saturday for obtaining credit by fraud. To the magistrate, O'Malley said that he was under the influence of liquor, and was not fully responsible for his actions. He denied turning his heel in Harris' eye. Mr. Stihvell said it was obvious that a brutal assault had been , committed. Although it might have been done under the influence of liquor, there was a degree of savagery about it. Sentence of two months' imprisonment was imposed. ,
