ONLY 2¼ MILLIONS.

LONDON SURPLUS-

DOMINION'S TRADE IN 1933.

BALANCE OVER LIABILITIES,

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

WELLINGTON, this day

The Minister in charge of the Government Statistician's Department, the Hon. -\. Hamilton, quoted at Takaka official details of New Zealand's overseas trade in the year ended December 31, showing an excess in the value of exports over imports of £15,425,000, 011 the basis of New Zealand currency. The excess on the sterling basis was £12,340,000.

The Minister declared that as the Dominion's oversea interest and other liabilities amounted approximately to ten millions sterling annually, the piesent accumulation of London funds was not excessive, for, on the basis of the export trade, it was a surplus of about two and a quarter millions, not live millions, as critics of the high exchange suggested.
