A TEAM'S RACE.

M CLASS CHALLENGES V CLASS, j A team's rnce, the first yachting event of this kind to be held on the Waitcmata, has been arranged for to-morrow between four representative boats In the M class of 18foot restricted patikls ancl the 18-foot V class of unrestricted boats. ] The race is the outcome of friendly rivalry between the two classes of IS-footers, and was arranged on Wednesday evening at a meeting of owners in the Squadron rooms. It was agreed to hold a series of three races, the first to be sailed to-morrow, starting and finishing off Ivohimarama whni'f. The actual course will be decided prior to the start, which Is timed for 3 p.m. The "boats selected to represent the M class are Manene, Maroro, Mann and Mawhiti. In the event of Manu, which Is back at Ponui after competing on Anniversary Bay, not being ready, Matarcre will take her place. The V boats to compete In the first race of the series are Paroro, Martha S., Memutu and Marianne. It was agreed that for the other two races which will take place on the Tamaki Club's dates of March 10 and April 7, each class has the right to change its nominated boats if desired. , The contest Is to be run on the points system, similar to the annual contest held between four six-metre yachts representing Great Britain and four representing the United States, termed the British-American Oup. The first boat to finish will score 8 points, the subsequent boats one less for each place, and the last boat taking one point only. The highest team score will win. It Is possible that a cup for the winning team, with medals for the skippers, will be presented by a supporter of the two classes. , . Interest Is very keen in the contcst, which should decide the vexed question of tlie superior speed of these two popular classes of 18-footers.
