SHORTAGE OF LAMBS.

EXPORT COMPETITION. Tht> shortage of lambs offering in Canterbury and the fact that the freezing works opened ranch earlier than usual and are now working on hand-to-mouth supplies, has resulted in an intense campaign to get lambs direct from the farms (says the "Christehureh Times"). The keen competition anions the eiprht or nine export firms has been one of the reasons for the increase of J /4d per lb in the lamb export schedule. Exporters are now more or less controllinc the market except in cases where butchers are prepared to bid higher for their supplies. Last Wednesday prime lightweight lambs sold as high as 7V£d per lb.
