POTATOES IN COLD STORE.

AUSTRALIAN EXPERIMENTS. The cold storage of potatoes has for some years been the object of many experiments and much research work. The results are sufficiently encouraging to justify the be-lief that the potato industry is on the verge of a new era which will ensure great benefits to the grower, dealer and consumer.

This view wns expressed by Mr. W. J. Williams, F.f'.S. (London), superintendent of Markets. Sydney) wlio mentioned that he bad conducted" experiments, some of tliß first, in Australia, as far back as 1926. The results were so encouraging that it was decided to carry out further tests the following year, and subsequent trials have been conducted from time to tune, from that data until now._ The results hare clearly indicated that it is quite possible to cold store potatoes with good results. The loss in cold store has been proved to be very much lower than in common storage, and the difference is considered sufficient to cover the cost of the storage charges, apart from the better quality of the article available to the public.
