TAKANINI HORSES.

CANDIDATES FOR TAKAFITNA. REREATU AND GOLD POCKET. Tondaleyo disappointed in her outings at Pukekolie, and her owner stated that in future he would give her an opportunity to make amends over hurdles. Tondaleyo, who is a full-sister to Catch'em, has been a big disappointment, having failed to reproduce her good track form in her races. She has previously shown the ability to jump well, and there is some hope for her in this department of the game if she races more kindly than has been the case in the past. Speedmint ran her usual honest race in the Kawakawa Cup and maintained a consistent record of nine times in the money and only twice out of a place in eleven starts this season. She still looks in good order, despite plenty of recent racing, and cannot be entirely left out of the Takapuna'Cup selections. Bellkyrian registered a good winning performance at Pukekohe last Saturday, and although not engaged at Takapuna will not lack friends the next time she is produced. She appeared in better condition than at Waipa, having benefited by a spell and a light preparation. A filly who has not held her condition long in the past, Bellkyrian may eventually develop into a solid hack, in which case her future could be

regarded as very promising. Model Girl will probably be given a race in the maiden event on Saturday. She has been making good progress of late, but has not yet shown anything on the track to regard her prospects too hopefully, bhe is a gross filly and is likely to take a race or two before she shows much form. She is a solid filly and should eventually develop good form after she has had the experience. Although Exaggeration has not previously shown any form beyond six furlongs, she is to be tried over a furlong further at Takapuna. This mare has been disappointing since winning a couple of sprint events in the spring, but she seems to be very well at present and may be lound acquitting herself better this week-end. The excellence of his jumping ability played no small part in the victory of Ihe Hiker in the Hokianga Hurdles last Saturday This gelding is not fashionably bred, but has made an improvement on his previous best, and although he has taken a while to get on the winning list his form this season has been encouraging, and he should win further races among the hurdlers. He is nominated for the High-weight Handicap next Monday at Takapuna, but it is more than likely his next race will be in the Tirau Hurdles at Matamata.

Gold Pocket showed something of the form expected of him by his impressive win at Pukekohe. This hack is expected to add to this victory in the near future and he should "again do well at Takapuna. Unlike his half-brother, Greek Gold, he is not quite as well suited by soft going, and prefers firm ground. Gav Blonde won decisively at Pukekohe, but the three who finished behind her were all maidens, two of them being given their first race. Her victory was an impressive one, but did not earn the poundage allotted her at Takapuna. She is perhaps Auckland's best two-year-old, but she has won only two events, and is now so high up in the handicaps that her prospects of winning another handicap do not look too hopeful and she will probably have to take on the best in future classic races. A lullsister to Gay Shiela, she resembles her relative for consistency, as she has never been further back than- fourth in any of her ten starts this season. E. Pope, who trains the abovementioned pair, has a yearling colt who is a full relative to them, and it is expected that his education will commence at an early date. Gav Shiela is a regular attendant on the track and is doing plenty of trotting work, in which she is showing 110 signs ot her recent, injury. It will be interesting to note her progress, and her future racing will also be watched with a very keen interest.

Recovering From Injury. Rerepai is still an absentee from the track, but is stated to be recovering fiom the injury he received at Ellerslie. -tUs stableinate Bump ere has been added to til list and will enjoy a respite tor some time. No fault can be found with the condi tion of Rereatu, and he will be ill faood order for his engagement at iakapuna. This gelding was successful 111 soft toing as a two-year-old and is likely part in the decision ot the Zealaudia Han dicap. His prospects would appear even brighter with track conditions on the solt S "ballymoney, who made his debut in the maiden race at Pukekohe, showed Promise of being useful by his forward tunning. He was with the leaders for the first hvc furlongs, and showed enough speed to sag gest that he is a prospect in a event in the near future. He is hot engaged at Takapuna, but is among the Matdmata e *fatyoon looked to be badly hurt when he fell in the hurdle race at i'ukekolie, but the injury has not proved as serious as at first thought and he is not expected to be verv long out of commission. . Express, a three-year-old filly by Whirlwind— Holymond, is among the entries foi Takapuna and may make her debut at that meeting. She is a gross liily, wno , shown speed on the tracks, but Probably require a lew races before leachmfc,

he Gay S Marigold was started only once at , the last Ellerslie meeting, when she rail , below expectations in the Queens 1 late, j Since then her work has not been of a very strenuous nature, but if at her best she should take a prominent pait in the decisiop of the Takapuna Cup, as she is on the minimum and should appx*eciate her lig ShicT"joining A. Rhodes' team Gallant Knight has been given just eufhcient exeicise to keep him healthy, and no huny is being made to get him to again spoit eilk. Gallant Knight is a hglit-constituUoned customer, who will take careful handling to bring him to the required condition. Eldora has been schooled recently and is showing quite a lot of promise. 1 his mare has been a big disappointment and lias failed to live. up to the traditions of an excellent pedigree. By lantheon Dora t> Double, slie should be able to stay °j er a distance, and the fact that she is showing promise as a hurdler induces the belief that she may lie found redeeming herself over

th Arcli Ruler ran a fair race at Pukekolie, but he did not reveal quite what was expected o£ him. This gelding is a useful sort and may do better when the tracks become easier. He has previously shown ability to handle soft going. , Cherry King looks none the worse for recent racing and will be ridden in the Takapuna Plate by A. E Ellis, He should show up in this event, but if Star Artist and Bouglial are at their best they should have his measure. , The only member of R. Miller s team undergoing a preparation is Nun Nicer. Thia gelding liaa been a little disappointing, but may show improvement when he meets weaker company. He is engaged at the Rotorua meeting, and if taken to that fixture may be capable of showing bet'ter form. His owner, Major Kerr Smiley, of England, was a buyer at the yearling sales, his purchases being the Limond—l omyris colt and the Iliad-Klceting colt, for whom he gave 800gs and 550gs, respectively. It is possible that both colts will receive their earlv education here, in which case they are likely to be handled by. Miller. Major Smilev races Persian in Australia, and it is probable that his latest acquisitions will also race there. This owner considered very unfortunate in losing Peter s Pride before he had raced.

REREATU AND CHERRY KING. The inside grass track was open at Takanini this morning, the horses being worked the reverse way round. Ihe going was good. Rereatu pleased by running five furlongs in 1.2 1-5. Gay Blonde dashed over three furlongs in good style, registering 36 2-ss. Ballynioney completed halt a mile in 50s, doing his work well. Cherry King jumped off at the eeven-furlor? post, and after running the first two furlongs in 255, and the first five in 1.2 2-5, completed seven in 1.29 3-5. _ It is not definite whether High Crest will start in the Calliope Handicap, but if he does he will be ridden by L. Clifford.
