TAKAPUNA COUNCIL.
The Takapuna Borough Council met on Wednesday evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. Guiniven, presiding. The following business was discussed. Aero Club Display.—An application made by the Auckland Aero Club to land aeroplanes on Takapuna Beach and take passenger flights next Sunday, was granted. The council did not wish this to be taken as a precedent, however, as on general principle it did not approve of commercial flying on Sundays. Grass Fires.—The Takapuna Volunteer Fire Brigade reported having attended a large number of grass fires in the last six weeks. The council discussed the menace of noxious weeds and grass fires near dwellings, and decided that greater precautions be taken to minimise the risk. Clearing Footpaths.—ln view of the shortage of funds, the council could not accede to a ratepayer's request to have "the long tufty grass cut from the footpath in front of his house. This work was formerly done by residents themselves to a large extent, and it was not considered desirable to favour some with help from the council while other footpaths remained encumbered.
