Hitler's efforts to substitute German fashions for French cannot be eaid to be a success yet. His most fervent hailers in feminine Berlin declare that he cannot put chic into German dress houses by a mere circular bidding them show only German models. No smart fraulein would dream of looking what the world used to call "hausfrau" any more. Hitler may be all-powerful in every other way, but women must and will be smart. They admit that German materials have improved, but they are willing to pay all they can possibly afford for Paris models. Besides, Nazi women cannot allow themselves to be regarded as dowdy by the German Jewesses, who smile at Hitler's fashion bureau.
