SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
The Onehunga Croquet Club held a most successful gala day, in the form of a junior tournament, on Tuesday. The weather was favourable, and the lawns were in a splendid condition. The prizewinners were: First prize, Mesdames Gollan and Christmas; runnersup, Mesdames Harris and Gelding; consolation, Mesdames Chapman and Rownsley. 'A successful garden party was held at Surrey Downs, the residence of Mr. K. Goodall. A Yankee tournament was won by Miss J. Inman and Mr. T. Dodd. A dressed doll was won by Mr. Pepperell, and a lamb by Mr. Hobman. Mr. Pen-, warden, introduced Rev. Phillips, who then made a presentation on behalf of the Presbyterian and Anglican Churches, to Mrs. G. G. Ranger, for her valuable assistance in playing the organ at services at Lichfield. ♦ * • • Mrs. L. M. Suckling, of Carlton Gore Road, gave a farewell afternoon tea in the Tudor rooms of Milne and Choyce, Ltd., yesterday. The table was attractively arranged with large crystal bowls of pink cactus dahlias, and fancy baskets. Mrs. Suckling received her friends in a black pebble crepe, relieved with white, and black Viennese 'beret. Among the guests were: Mesdames J. Stanburg, M. Hart, H. Law, G. Walker, S. Storry, L. Glibbery, M. Grant, C. Craig, W. Gratton, C. Babbington, Shaw, and Miss Lush.
