CAPSIZED IN SURF.

SEARCH FOR DROWNED MAN. "DIVINER" INTERRUPTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTOHUROH, this day. Some excitement was caused at North Beach yesterday afternoon by the efforts of a man named Archibald Small, who claims divining powers, to locate the body of Mr. H. J. Freeman, who was drowned last Thursday.

He produced his forked twig and began to work. The twig flicked down and pointed almost directly out to sea, while firom other points along tho shore the fork swung round to a point in the same direction.

A big crowd gathered and the diviner was offered the use of a catamaran. He changed into a bathing costume and set out into the surf with two members of the Surf Club propelling the catamaran by paddling. The breakers caught the craft, however, and swept it rapidly inshore, with the diviner clinging tightly to it. The effort was then abandoned.
