BIAJTUKATT AMATEUR CIATB. WEDNESDAY NIGHT'S SPORTS. Good sport Is anticipated at the annual championship carnivnl of the Manukau Amateur Cycling Club next Wednesday evening at the Western Springs Stadium, under the electric lightß. Kaclng will commence nt S p.m. and the meeting vUI bo the flrst night cnrnlval of the season. Entries alone reflect keen competition. In all there will be 71 cyclists racing. The handicaps, of which there are three, hare drawn record entries. Thirty-eight have entered for tho one mile, 34 for the two miles, nnd 27 for the half-mile, while nine jimlGrs and seven ladies have entered for their respective events. The running events have also attracted good entries. Norm. F. Cooper, Auckland's milcr. Lor. C. Barker, noted half-miler. Alan .T. Elliot, the speedy sprinter, and Jack Valder, the Papatoetoe Club's promising distance runner, will be competing Among the cyclists Mai. P. Byrnes. TTenry and Los Dwipht, and Ron. F. Foublster should keep the spectators thrilled with their sprinting. The five miles championship event promises the biggest thrill of the evening, for 16 have entered. This event will stnrt from n rolling start and will be over 17 laps 70 yards of the big concrete track. The following have entered:—ll. 11. Dwight (holder), I* H. Dwight (Auckland champion, 1033), M. P, Byrnes, R. G. Foubister, T. G. Sullivnn, J. G. Morris, C. A. Clarke, J. W. Clark, A. W. Beeston, C. T. Dwight, L. M.. Nicholson, F. R. Markhnm, A. H. Dwight, G. P. Clark, S. G. Webster and K. N. Clark. Principal among the handicap entrants is Gordon Patrick, 100 miles road champion, nnd R. V. Arvidaon, another road rider, of note, who is making good' at track work. The Lynndale crack, E. L. G. I-lughen, has entered for '(ill three handicaps. A good race is promised in the half mile ladies' event, in which Miss E. Lorigan and Miss V. E. Baird figure on scratch. Miss Lorißiin. commenced racing last year and already this season has had five victories : the Inst was at Whatawhata on New Year's Day. Miss Baird has never previously hnd much opposition and Miss Lorigan's presence will intensify Interest. The officials of the Technical Old Boys' Amateur Athletic Club will be in complete control of the running events under the able leadership of Mr. Alwyn Moon.
