PIRACY AND MURDER.
MANCHUKUO RIVER BANDITS. HARBIN, January 6. News of tho capture of a steamer by Chinese pirates, and the murder of the captain's wife by Chinese- bandits, has just reached Harbin. The steamer, of Manchukuo registry, was on the River Amur, which divides Manchukuo from Siberia, when a group of Chinese bandits, who had boarded the vessel as passengers, rushed into the captain's cabin, where there was a safe containing a large sum of money. When the captain offered resistance they fired several shots, severely wounding" him and killing his wife. They then stole tho safe, and started to rob the other passengers on the boat; When three resisted they were shot down, as were also three sailtfrs. The bandits then forced the pilot to bring- the vessel to the Manchukuo side of the river, where they disembarked, together with 13 Manchukuo merchants and a Japanese passenger, who are now being held to ransom.
