WATER POLO.

AUCKLAND DEFEATS NAVY. BOARDS CARNIVAL AT BATHS. Last night at the Tepid Baths the Auckland Water l'olo Control Board staged an attractive carnival. The chief attraction was a representative match between Auckland and the Navy (won by the former 6—l), and it was preceded by live other games. Navy made an encouraging start ami bustled the Auckland defence with clever combination. Goldsmith gained possession and, dribbling to the goal mouth, flicked the ball over Fairgrny's head for a goal. Auckland replied with an attack that carried it well into the Navy territory, and W. F. Smith crowned a smart passing bout by slamming the ball into the net. The pressure was maintained, Smith placing -Auckland ahead with a hard shot from fairly close in. A stinging shot by Goldsmith was well stopped by Fairgray. \t half-time the score was:—Auckland 2. Savy 1. Soon after play was resumed Suiith made a long throw downfield.
