THAMES JOCKEY CLUB.

THE ANNUAL MEETING. GOIiDFIEJLDS CtTP TO TRISHNA. KIN T O MESTOR'S DUAL SUCCESS. Perfect weather favoured the Thames Jockey .Club for their annual meeting, which opened at Parawai yesterday, and will lie concluded to-morrow. There was. a large attendance, and the going was hard and fast. Trislina, an outsider, won the chief event, the Goldfields Cup, and returned his supporters over a score on the win machine. King Mestor won twice during the day, annexing the Pipiroa and Puriri Handicaps. The sprint event went to Marechal, and Karangapai led from end to end in the Hauraki Plains Handicap, the final event on the programme. ' The sum of £8493 10/ was handled by the totalizator during the day against £67015 last year, an increase of £1757 10/. A Big Surprise. For the principal race of the day, the Goldliclds Cup, Prolyxo, Jalldy Karo, D'Artagnan and Con I'uoco did not line up at the barrier. Of the field of eight Speedmint was a pronounced first choice, •with Mungatoon and King's Archer also in request. Mungatoon led in the early stages from Whakapara, King's Archer, Speedmint, Flying Prince, Trishna, Free . Air and Alloy. The only alteration along the back was that Alloy moved up into sixth place. Going across the top Whakapara . ran up to Mungatoon, and the two led into the straight from King's Archer, Alloy,. Speedmint,. and Flying Prince. Once in line for the judge, Trishna came through from the back with a great burst of speed, and got up in time to defeat Mungatoon by a neck, with Speedmint third, a similar distance away. Then came' Whakapara, King's Archer, Flying Prince, Alloy, and Free Air.' The winner paid over a score on the straight-out machine. . In the Last Stride. The defections for the Parawai Stakes, for two-year-olds, were OveFdue, Trimden, Pola Dancer and Respectful. Of the four starters, Royal Appellant was in pride of place with investors. When they settled down, Gay Athlone was .showing the way to King Brierly, Ling Moy and Royal Appellant. Gay Athlone led into the straight from Ling Moy, with Royal Appellant and King Brierly close up. Half-way down the running King Brierly came fast on the outside and got up to win in the last stride by half p, head from Royal Appellant, who beat Ling Moy by three-quarters of a length. Another Tight Finish. Only four horses paraded for the Flying Handicap, namely, British Columbia, Lhnex, Hampton Park, and Marechal, arid of these Hampton Park was made favourite. British Columbia and the favourite began the best and led along the back from Marechal and Limex. There was no change at the straight, entrance, but when well on the way down the running Limex and Marechal drew out, and a great set-to resulted between the pair, Marechal eventually prevailing by half a head from Limex, who was three-quarters of a length the better of Hampton Park. An Easy Wini There were only six starters in the Puriri Hack Handicap, and King Mestor, who won the Pipiroa Handicap earlier in the day, was a warm favourite, with Wee Musk and Roman Mascot next best backed. When they were let go Roman Mascot, King Mestor and Barograph began beet, and racing along the back Roman Mascot had charge from itoxy, Wee Musk, Barograph, King Mestor and Hawthorn. Roman Mascot led into the straight, with Wee Musk and Roxy on terms next, then came Barograph, with King Mestor moving up. The lastnamed took charge in the run home, and won easily by one length and a half from Roman Mascot, with Roxy a length further back. Barograph, Hawthorn and Wee Musk were next. Karangapa] All the Way. Scratchings in the Hauraki Plains Handicap reduced the field t6 half a dozen runners, and most money came dor Prolyxo, with Karangapai and Jalldy Karo also in request. When the field had settled down Karangapai was showing the way to Jalldy Karo, Prolyxo, Gay Cockade, Master Musk and Chief Cook, and he led across the top six lengths clear of Jalldy Karo, Gay Cockade, Prolyxo and Chief Cook. There was little change entering the straight, where Chief Cook began to move up fast, and though hard ridden he failed to reach Karangapai by half a head. Jalldy Karo was three lengths away third, then came Gay Cockade, Prolyxo and Master Musk. Later results are: — GOLDFIELDS CUP of £150.
