PROVINCIAL NEWS.

WAITOA. A garden party, in aid of the Waitoa Sunday School, was held at the home of Mrs. A. J. Luxton, on Wednesday. There was a large attendance, and over £11 was raised. The ladies in charge of the stalls were a=3 follow: Fancy goods, Mesdames Greenlees, A. M. Yarri\ll, and H. Hight; ice cream, Miss D. Luxton; afternoon tea, Mesdames F. Brown, A. J. Luxton, E. Holland, G. Woodbridge, and Miss D. Yarrall. Winners of competitions were as follow: Nail-driving, Miss N. Mundell and Mr. H. Dive; throwing the penny, Mrs. F. G. Brown and Mr. H. Dive; clock golf, Mrs. W. S. K. Mills and Mr. G. Bowden; target croquet, Miss N. Mundell and Mr. A. J. Luxton; crazy croquet, Mrs. P. Lynch and Mr. G. Bowden. GISBORNE NOTES. Mrs. L. Jex-Blake, accompanied by her little daughter Judith, returned to Mangapoike this week, after a short visit to town. Dr. and Mrs. H. Goulding Rice, accompanied by their little daughter Jacqueline, and their guest, Mrs. E. Adair, returned this week after a holiday visit to Lake Taupo. Mrs. A. M. Georgetti, Tangihau station, is the guest of Mrs. E. M. iGunn, Wainui Koad. Mrs. Carey-Hill, who is a recent arrival from England, has been the guest of her sister, Mrs. Bullen, Stout Street, while on a visit to Gisborne, and left on Wednesday on a tour of New Zealand, in the course of which she will visit the various branches of the Victoria League to report on the league's activities in the Old Country. Miss Muriel Barker and Miss Joan Hutchinson (Vancouver), who have been visiting the latter's eister, Mrs. Nowell Izard, in Wanganui during the holiday season, spent a few days at the Chateau Tongariro on their return journey to Gisborne, which they reached on Tuesday evening. Mrs. E. Loisel, Tolaga Bay, is spending a few days at Mohaka, as the guest of Mrs. J. R. Murphy. Miss T. Gardner has returned to Hihiroa after spending the holidays at Lake Rotoiti. Mr. and Mrs. S. D. Nathan and family have returned from Paraparaumu, where they spent Christmas and New Year. Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Gambrill,. accompanied by their daughters, Misses Barbara and Priscilla Gambrill, and their gucst, Miss Marjorie Lysnar, are returning on Saturday after spending the holiday season at Lake Rotoiti. Mr. and Mrs. W. Clark, "Opou," returned tliis week, after a brief visit to Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. L. Grey Barton, Stout -Street, and Miss Doris Barton returned from Auckland this week. Miss E. Barry, who has been spending a holiday in Auckland, has returned to Gisborne. Miss May Haggitt, Dunedin, is visiting Gisborne. Mrs. N. H. Bull, Hinaki Street, returned from Tolaga Bay this week. Miss Rachael Wauchop, accompanied by her cousin from Christchurclv, Miss P. W.auchop, left on Tuesday to visit Mrs. Ron Fitzgerald at Hangaroa. Mrs. G. Scott has returned to Waipaoa after a short visit to the East Coast. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Stock, Domett Street, returned from the East Coast this week. Mr. and Mrs. P. Barker, Tolaga Bay, who with their family have been staying at Lake Rotoiti, returned this week to Tolaga Bay. Miss Joanne Cameron, Waerenga-a-hika, has returned from Hawke's Bay. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Irwin, Iranui Road, have returned from Lake Rotoiti. Misses M. Hegarty and Anne Gaddum returned during the week-end from Tokoinaru Bay. Mrs. I. Brown, Rotorua, is the guest of Mrs. R. L. Maclean, Harris Street. Mr. and Mrs. G. I. Parker and family have returned from Mohaka. Miss Jocelyn Blair has returned to Gisborne after spending a camping holiday at Ruakituri, followed by a visit to Hawke's Bay. Mrs. D. J. Parker and her daughters, Mis. J. Dunne and Miss Marie Parker, were hostesses at a party on Monday evening given at their home, Kaiti Esplanade, in honour of Miss Catherine Alley. Flowers and greenery adorned the verandah, where the guests danced to radio music, and hydrangea in pink and blue tonings decorated the drawing room. Amusing competitions ' engaged the attention of the guests between dances, and vocal solos, given by Mrs. Dunne, Miss Sexton and Messrs. J. W. and Jim Parker, were much appreciated. Supper was served in the dining room, a bowl of roses ornamenting the table. The guests were: Mr. and Mrs. H. Bennett, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Hogan, Mr. and Mrs. F. Carroll, Mr. and Mrs. F. McDonald, Mr. and Mrs. Dunne, Mesdames A. Gunn and Honan, Misses Owen (2), Sweeney, Alley (2), Leach, Brosnahan, Keany and Fiskcn (2).
