WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.

MATAMATA. About 25 members and friends were present at the January meeting, of the Matamata Women's Institute, which, for a pleasant change, was held at the Opal Springs, Okauia. Business matters were dealt "with in the cool shade of trees. Discussion concerning preparations for the forthcoming A. and P. Show took place, and members were reminded ot the knitted peggy squares to be made for the community quilt, which" is to be exhibited. An enjoyable bathe was then indulged in, and was followed by afternoon °tea. The hostesses were Mesdames Clarke, Williams, McMillan and G. Stewart.

PAPAKURA. There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting, though it is holiday time. Owing to the absence of the president, Mrs. V. Houghton, at Raglan, Mrs. Ingham took the chair. The roll call was a "New Year Motto," and was well responded to. The points competition was won by Mrs. Barker, with Mesdames Croskery and Clarke runners-up. A guessing competition created great interest, and Mrs. Clarke won, with Mrs. Williamson second. Solos were given by Mrs. Oartwright, and monologues by Mrs. H. C. Baulf. The hostesses were Mesdames Andrews, Barker, Barnes, riatt, and Firman.
