CRUISERS' PLANS.
EXERCISES IN GULF. GOING SOUTH LATER. The cruiser H.M.s. Diomede is to leave dock this afternoon after cleaning and painting, and the Dunedin is to dock on Monday for similar work. Thereafter the 'two ships will be in and out of port for a while before sailing on their southern cruises. Both warships leave on' January 22 for Port Fitzroy, for landing party exercises, and will return on January 26, in order to be in attendance at the Auckland Anniversary Regatta on January 29. The following d'ay they both sail for the Hauraki Gulf for other exercises, returning on February 9 for oil and provisions. The annual regatta at Russell will be held when the cruisers arrive there affer leaving Auckland on February 12. Sailing and pulling events are to be contested, the latter for the Sir James Allen Cup, which has been held by the Diomede team for some years.
Thereafter the Diomcdc is to leave for Napier and the Dunedin for Gisborne, the two rejoining at Wellington, to land teams and men for the camp at Trentham. The Diomede then goes to Akaroa and Timaru and the Dunedin to New Plymouth jind Nelson, and the two will meet again in the Queen Charlotte Sound for drills. Later they return to Wellington to re-embark those who attend at Trentham, and after another visit to the sound both ships return to Auckland direct. They arc expected on April 28.
