BANDIT SHOT.
DARING DAYLIGHT RAID.
Scotland Yard flying squads were searching throughout one Friday night last month for three men who were concerned in the hold-up of a brewery collector at Twickenham, Middlesex, at mid-day. Mr. Rupert Wagner, who is an employee of the Friary Brewery, Guildford, was outside a publichouse on the Staincs Rond, Twickenham, when a car was stopped near him and the men got out. The bandits seized a bag which Mr. Wagner had placed in his own car and dashed back to their own waiting vehicle. The bag contained cheques and money to the amount of £1200. Mr. Wagner drew a revolver from his pocket and fired at the men. He shot several times, and it is believed that one of the fugitives was injured. Subsequently the bandits' car was found abandoned at Hounslow, and in it • were "found bloodstains, which confirmed, the belief that one at least of the men had been hit. The car had been stolen from the London district. "The bandits' car," Mr. Wagner said in an interview, "was drawn up about ten yards from my car and facing it. I left the publichouse with my bag and placed it on the passenger's seat. I closed the door and passed round the back of my car to get into the driver's seat. "I saw one of the bandits open the passenger's door and snatch the bag. There was another man with him. The two men dashed to the other car, which was already on the move. It accelerated rapidly. I pulled out my revolver and opened fire at the car. "I ran after the car, firing at it as I ran until I had emptied the six chambers of my revolver. I understand that three of the bullets hit the car."
