CONDITIONS IMPROVE
DAMAGE IN S. CANTERBURY.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TIMARU, Sunday. After a week or more of unseasonable weather, South Canterbury experienced a return to summer-like conditions today. In eome parts of the district on Friday night the downpour was so heavy that roads were soon awash and creeks became torrents. Gordon's Valley experienced something in the nature of a cloudburst, but an inspection to-day revealed that the damage to crops wae not as extensive as wae at first thought. In other areas, however, wheat and oats *have been completely flattened, and in some instances turnip paddocks have been washed out.
Crops at Willowbridge, Horven, Makikihe, Geraldine and Winchester suffered severely. There wae a light fall of snow on Hunter's Hills this morning, but Mount Peel and the four peaks were heavily coated.
