CRISIS ENDS.
SETTLEMENT IN BELGIUM.
BRUSSELS, January 5.
The political crisis has been settled. ' The Cabinet has decided to reinstate .officials of inferior rank and the cases of higher officials have been referred to a special tribunal. King Albert sent a message to the Cabinet urging that it would not be in the country's interests for Ministers to resign. A message from Brussels on December 31 stated: —A crisis is threatened because King Albert refuses to accede to demands for the withdrawal of the Ministerial t decree renominating functionaries' who were dismissed after the war for co-operat-ihg with Germans during the occupation. Breaking a. police cordon 8000 ex-service-men assembled .before the Royal Palace and, reviled- the Ministry, demanding its resignation. They cheered King Albert, who retired quietly.
