BEEF REDUCTIONS.
Alarm Not Shown by Australian Authorities. MANY COUNTRIES MUST SHARE (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, January 2. Australian meat authorities do not snare the alarm which has been expressed concerning the prospects of Britain asking Australia and New Zealand to make a drastic reduction in beef exports. The authorities point out that whatever reductions, are made are certain to be shared among Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Rhodesia and Argentina, and consequently no one country is likely to be severely affected individually while the consequent rise in prices may compensate for smaller shipments. Moreover, it is pointed out that recent curtailment of shipments of fat cattle from the Irish Free State to Britain is bound to alleviate the position in the other Dominions. The market for frozen mutton and lamb may continue to improve without further restrictions.
