HOUSE THIEVES.

ACTIVITY IN REMUERA. DISCOVERIES BY OWNERS. A blanket pinned over a bedroom window and a bed that had been slept in indicated to Mr. T. Gaunt, of 04, Portland Road, Remuera, that intruders had made free with his home while he and his family were away over the holidays. He returned home about 8.30 last evening and found that the house, an isolated one at the bottom of the road', had been ransacked. Clothes had been pulled out of wardrobes and drawers, and a pile was found in the bathroom. Nothing was taken. The intruders got into the house by smashing a panel in the back door and opening the lock. A wristlet watch and clothing were stolen from the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. 11. Easdown, 7. Victoria Avenue. Mr. Easd'own is abroad on business, and Mrs. Easdov/n visited her home late yesterday afternoon, to discover that the place had been ransacked. By breaking a leadlight panel in the front door and turning the lock, the thieves had the run of the house. A ladder placed at the back and' marks on a window led the proprietor of the Globe Hotel to believe that an attempt to break into the hotel was made some time last night.
