BRITISH SAILORS' SOCIETY.
! The seamen in port were well catered for-by the British Sailors' Society at their "Rest," 3, Lower Albert Street, during the Christmas and New Year festive season, and the workers had a busy but happy time dispensing seasonable hospitality. On Boxing day a picnic was held at Cornwall Park. Lunch and tea were provided, and later games, music, and supper were enjoyed at the "Rest." During the week the men were entertained _in various ways, supper being provided each evening. On Sunday the men from the s.s. Canonesa were given a farewell tea, which was greatly enjoyed. Divine service followed and was well attended, and the evening concluded at about 10.30 with the singing of favourite hymns. On New Year's Day a tea was provided at 6 p.m., followed by a concert contributed by various church friends brought by Mrs. T. Clark and Rev. Leadley. During the tea the workers' committee presented Mrs. T. Clark with a chocolate bouquet as a -nark of esteem. Every man visiting the "Rest" during the festivities was given a ditty bag filled with useful articles. Many expressions of appreciation of a happy time were made by the men. They particularly appreciated the homely atmosphere of the "Rest" and the friendliness of the workers.
