WESTPORT CARNIVAL.
VARIETY OF ATTRACTIONS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WESTPORT, Monday. The Westport borough jubilee carnival was continued over the holidays under very favourable weather conditions. Saturday's features included a procession with many novel features, and a luncheon to the pioneers, at which the Mayor, Sir. Kilkenny, presided. Speakers at the luncheon included Mr. P. C. Webb, M.P., and the Hon. W. H. Mclntyre, M.L.C. A sports meeting was also held, interest being added to the contests through the presence of a representative team from the Sydenham Club (Christchurch). Charles C4ordon and Miss Collinan, members oE the visitors' team, dominated the sprints, but the All Black, Eddie Holder, was well in the firing line, winning the 100 yds fiat off the 2yd mark, and also the 220 yds hurdles. The Sydenham Club presented the Westport Club with a silver cup for annual competition. The Municipal and Blackball Pipers Bands supplied music in the streets in the evening, and again on New Year's Eve, when a wonderful demonstration of gaiety and light-heartedness was given. Speeches were made from the Fire Brigade station by the Mayor and by Mr. Webb, both of whom were in optimistic vein. The bowling tournament was continued to-day. The cricket match, Town _v. Country, was also played, a feature being the attractive innings of 104 not out by Arthur Alloo, late of Otago, and now headmaster of the Granity School. The R.S.A. picnic in the afternoon, and the Hogmanay Ball this evening were also included in the carnival attractions.
