RUGBY FOOTBALL.
MARIST 0.8. PRIZE NIGHT.
The importance of training in order to ensure success in the football field was strongly emphasised by Mr. Harry Frost, chairman of the Auckland Rugby Union, at the smoke concert of the Marist Brothers Old Boys' Rugby Football Club last evening. 15ie function was tendered to the members of the club by Mr. J. Fraser Smith (president) and Mr. C. H. Trigg (vice-president). In replying to the toast of the Auckland Rugby Union, Mr. Frost 6aid that the Union came in for " a tremendous amount of criticism, but in his association of many years with Rugby football as player and administrator, he had found that members of the union endeavoured to do everything on the right lines.
Mr. Frost complimented the Marist Club on being one of the three teams to tie for the senior championship, The club, he affirmed, had every chance. They had a fine lot of members, and apparently they attended to training, while in addition they ha'd the advantage of an early start owing to the annual Marist tournament at Easter. After reference to the need for steady and consistent' training, Mr. Frost also complimented the club on having two such great supporters and officers as Mr. Smith and Mr. Trigg. Mr. J. Davey, secretary' of the club, in proposing the toast of the supporters, spoke of the great support that had been given during the year, and said that next year it was hoped that the senior team would win the championship outright. In the course of the evening Dr. Buxton spoke in reminiscent vein of the old days of the club, and other speakers were Father Joyce ; Mr. M. J. Sheahan and Mr. E.~ Wright-. The presentation of trophies and cups was made to members of the senior team by Mr. Fraser Smith, and a presentation of a framed photograph of the 1933 senior team was made to Mr. S. Hadley, the captain, by Mr. H. Miiller, vice-captain.
